Flag and football

Dear Mr. Michael Bennett,
Mr. Bennett, you have offended me.
Others feel as I do, and I hope they also show their disdain for your actions.
I was and remain a United States Marine. I proudly stand tall for the United States of America when any of its symbols are displayed. You see I served with those that fought and gave their lives for our flag, our anthem, our country, and yes, our freedom.
Having visited Arlington Cemetery, I have seen our bravest being laid to rest, and honored with a flag draped coffin while Taps sounded the final note to a most significant life. I’ve seen a neatly folded flag being placed in the hands of a grieving mother, wife or relative who will forever cope with that loss and the memory of that day.
Please take a moment to think about them as you sit during the next national anthem. They will be right behind you, or across the field watching you as you disrespect what their sons, daughter’s, husbands and wives have afforded “you” with their ultimate sacrifice.
I love football. I played football. Sunday afternoons have always been a special time to kick back and watch talented young athletes perform. But no more for me. Not as long as you dishonor the memory of so many that have sacrificed so much by continuing your sad, disheartening and misplaced display. The NFL and the Seahawks are also complicit as long as they allow this to continue. It’s a shame on all of you.
You offend me and I for one will not be tuning in until you can suck it up, stand tall, get your act together and be a man.
Semper Fi,
Dick Nord
