    La Conner businesses shared a common thread of creativity last weekend with the first annual Junior Art Walk Friday. Area tweens and teens' – our next generation of artists – artwork was displayed in merchants' windows throughout Morris and First streets.     La Conner's kids will show their artistic talent at the inaugural Junior Art Walk Aug. 23. The Museum of Northwest Art, participating local businesses, restaurants and galleries will open their doors to showcase junior artworks in their windows throughout the day and weekend.   • Fire departments train on controlled house burnings

    La Conner Fire Department volunteer firefighters conducted a series of controlled house burn trainings along with Fire Districts 2, 13, 27 and Whatcom County fire marshals in the Pleasant Ridge neighborhood just outside of La Conner on May 22 and 25. Fire District staffs will perform a live burn on June 10, restricted to professional firefighters. Controlled burns are only permitted and performed under strict supervision.
