Many who grew up here know the story of World War II hero John K. Bob. Just not the whole story. The full extent of Bob’s bravery came to light Thursday, the result of family reminiscences and exhaustive research conducted over the past decade by Swinomish Records Manager and Tribal Archivist Theresa Trebon. The topic of former Fishtown artists, and their discussing “living off the grid,” both then and now, brought a crowd of over 60 people to the Skagit County Historical Museum Nov. 11. Artists and audience filled the room that the featured exhibit, “In the Valley of Mystic Light,” occupies. Spend quality time with a poet at the Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop at the Museum of Northwest Art Nov 18. It starts at 1 p.m. Washington state poet laureate Tod Marshall is the instructor. There is a fee. Ekphrastic poetry narrates or reflects on a work of visual art, expanding on it through the written word. MoNA’s current exhibits are the starting point.
