La Conner resident, Don Wright, died at home on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 69. Don was born in Mount Vernon on March 29, 1946. He attended Mount Vernon schools and graduated with the Mount Vernon High School class of 1964. After graduation, he moved briefly to Eastern Washington. Something that’s apparently never happened before has prompted the La Conner School Board to call an emergency meeting tomorrow, Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Middle School gym. Our loving father, La Conner resident Reynold “Rey” Gietzen, died and went home to be with the Lord at age 97 on Tuesday, January 26. He was born on August 24, 1918 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. Rey and his wife Margaret owned and operated City Foods grocery store in Seattle. They loved traveling the U.S. in their motor home and taking trips to Maui. After tragedies involving elderly residents, Fire District 13 has launched a program aimed at giving families peace of mind. Fire Chief Roy Horn said morning check-in calls to residents could prevent tragedy.
