A fire that swept through a dock at Shelter Bay Marina late Friday afternoon sank six boats and burned others to the waterline. Firemen and Oil Spill Response teams worked through the night to contain oil and gas spills. Despite snow and cold, the Rotary Club of La Conner sold 96 fishing tickets to old and young fishermen and fisherwomen on Saturday during the 49th annual Smelt Derby. According to divers working at the site of Friday’s fire at Shelter Bay Marina, diesel was pouring out of the boat tank underwater as the first of six sunken boats was hauled to the surface.
