Miles S. Johns III, of LaConner, WA, passed away on December 10, 2019. He was 72. Miles was born to parents Miles Jr. and Virginia ‘Ginny’ Johns (Demmer) on December 8, 1947 in Bellevue, WA. He served in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge for medical reasons, he eventually landed in LaConner, WA. To the Editor: The La Conner school board agreed to a contribution from the Swinomish Tax Authority of $660,000 for 2020. This includes $500,000 for operations and maintenance, $100,000 for roofing repairs for the gym and $60,000 for projects selected by the district. The Swinomish contribution does not include any money for debt service on the bond that built the middle school. Dear Editor: On behalf of La Conner School District, I extend sincere gratitude to Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Tax Committee for their generous donation to our district. Again in 2020, the committee approved $660,000 to support our students. The funds will be used to support teaching and facilities. In addition, our students identified three areas to receive some designated funds: the music program, teacher mini-grants and the Braves Club.
