RONALD MARSHALL NELSON

Our dad, Ron Nelson, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, July 26 in La Conner.

He was born in Seattle June 21, 1929, the only child of Alice Gertrude King Nelson and Angus Johannes “Joe” Nelson.

Ron grew up in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island and graduated from Central Washington University, where he studied economics. While there, he met our mom, Flossie Mitchell, his wife of 59 years. Flossie preceded him in death.

Ron, who served in the Korean War, retired from the U.S. Naval Aviation as a commander after 21 years in the Reserves and retired from Boeing after 29 years in finance.

After retirement he spent 10 seasons gillnetting in Alaska. The Nelsons traveled and spent winters in Arizona.

Ron is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl Nelson and Kathy and Roger Paul; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Abbie Nelson and Ron and Colleen Nelson; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, for whom he was a great model of hard work and integrity.

Thanks for everything, Dad!

A celebration of life will be held August 24, at 2 p.m. at the Shelter Bay clubhouse, in La Conner. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
