ELENOR ROSE POWERS

Elenor Rose “Ellie” Powers of Mount Vernon died at age 86 on Sunday, August 17.

Ellie was born May 3, 1928, to Edward and Marie Weimer Kainz in Markinch, Saskatchewan, Canada.

In the early 1950s, she met and married Richmond O. Powers, and together they had three children.

Ellie lived in Mount Vernon for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Unitarian Church. Ellie was an accomplished artist, working in watercolors, oils, and clay as well as many other media. She owned an art gallery and passed on her knowledge and talents by teaching others, and she designed the Mount Vernon city logo. Her other interests included collecting, reading and writing.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John Huber, Conard Huber, Arnold Huber and Ernest Kainz; and her sisters, Alma Huber and Marie Kainz.

She is survived by her son Cameron “Hank” Powers and his wife Laura of Sedro-Woolley and Laura’s daughters Tracie, Emily and Jessica; her son Brett Powers and his wife Lisa of Mount Vernon; her daughter Lynn Powers of Seattle and Guemes Island; her brother, Raymond Kainz of Southey, Saskatchewan, Canada; two grandchildren Kyle Powers, and Erin Croucher and her husband Bryan; and two great-grandchildren Corbin and Isla.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to Mountain Glen and Hospice of the Northwest for their excellent care of Ellie. A memorial service for Ellie will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 at Kern Funeral Home.
