BEANJO

BeanJo, the self-proclaimed King of Pull & Be Damned, died on Saturday, September 6, among the rosemary and thyme with friends at his side.

A great swimmer all his life, he continued to enjoy a swim at the beach until the day before he died. He was the NW Champion Log Roller for years.

BeanJo had many human friends and was exceptionally gentle with young’ns. He would respectfully retrieve balls thrown at great distances of a foot or so. As an alpha male, he also had a number of canine frienemies. It was a dog’s life.

One day he came home with an anonymously awarded metal attached to his collar proclaiming him to be “The Best Dog in the World. He protects us.”

His favorite things were green fuzzy balls, which were ordered by the hundred-lot. Most of the time he carried around two of them, frequently forgetting to bring them home; he preferred that two be thrown on land or sea.

The love of his life was Keela. They met while strolling Pull & Be Damned as very young dogs and had a loving relationship until she died a few years ago. They both moved on to second families and homes and continued to visit and have many adventures. Each greeting they yipped, circled and rolled around, finally laying next to one another to catch up on the news. They loved to hike, run and go on car rides.

Once they were arrested on the Shelter Bay Golf Course for trespassing and had to be bailed out by a first family human. Another adventure found them stuck after they crossed to an island off Pull & Be Damned during low tide. They barked until the tides allowed them to cross back to the mainland.

Many thanks to all the friends, some known only to him, that watched over him during his happy life. He never minded visiting his buddy Dr. Lance Campbell, who he first met on a late night removal of porcupine quills. Much appreciation to Dr. Campbell and staff, who frequently worked magic and sent him on his way to enjoy another day. A special thank-you to BeanJo’s in-laws and good friends Jim and Janet of P&BD, who he visited often throughout his life.

He will be missed by his feline housemates: Snookerdoodle and especially by his devoted buddy Zoe. BeanJo, a trusted friend since he adopted me 11 years ago; staying close and ever ready for fun, he will always be in my heart. I will smile with each discovery of the love notes he has been hiding for years, in the form of green balls, stolen squeaky toys and peanut butter jars.
