The Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride will roll out of La Conner on Saturday as people in their dapper best take a leisurely pedal through the petals.
With the daffodils still bright and the tulips bursting out early, people sporting 1800s fashions will give as well as get an eyeful.
Of course, weather is always a little unpredictable this time of year, with sprinkles and such, so sturdy tweed clothing is recommended.
For the inaugural year of the Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride, Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman of Port Townsend will participate with their 1880s-style high wheel bicycles and Victorian era clothing.
While fashions of yore are encouraged, all bicyclists are welcome to participate — just leave the Lycra at home.
The route is a meandering 13 miles, set for a sedate pace with plenty of picture taking. The starting point is in front of the Channel Lodge on N. First Street at 10 a.m. There will be a lunch stop for a picnic at Rexville Grocery on Best Road. Then riders will return to town, for a 2 p.m. gathering at Hellam’s Vineyard on N. First Street.
The entry fee for the ride is $10, and riders can register online at http://www.thedandydaffodil.com or at 9:30 a.m. at the start on the day of the event.
