EDWARD "ED" GOOD

Edward “Ed” Good, 73, formerly of La Conner, died peacefully on Friday, March 27, at Skagit Valley Hospital after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

Ed was known around La Conner for his good humor, his social skills and his community involvement. He was a leader in the La Conner Sea Scouts, a member of La Conner Kiwanis and of the Shelter Bay Chorus.

He was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 13, 1942. He grew up in Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and hiking with his dad.

Ed graduated from Washing-ton and Jefferson College with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1966. He was a captain in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, including service in Vietnam, where in addition to service medals, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

His professional career en-compassed working for the Equal Employment Opportunity Center, various civil and ethnic rights organizations. He served terms as hearing examiner in several jurisdictions, including Skagit County. He also worked as town planner for La Conner.

He loved people, and he excelled at making new friends and taking care of the ones he had. Before Ed’s health deteriorated, he loved to attend the monthly folk dances at Bayview.

Blessed with an adventurous spirit, Ed enjoyed experiencing different varieties of food, music, art and culture.

He was entranced by the natural world, enjoying sailing through the San Juan Islands and the beauty of the Skagit Flats, the tulip fields and snow geese.

Ed is survived by his former wife Janet, their son Fred and wife Debby, and son Lee Good. He also leaves two granddaughters, Cassandra and Rebekah. All live in the Seattle area.

His Pennsylvania relatives include his sister, Janet Johnson and her husband Beau of Oakdale; his niece, Kimberly Hough of Oakdale; his nephew, Mike and his wife Cheryl Jones of Cranberry; and his step-niece, Lori (Johnson) and her husband Rick Krist of Pittsburgh. He also leaves five great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Amber (Peace) Good. His second wife Mary Good passed away in 1991.
