La Conner Whitney Road will be sporting new asphalt after a construction project scheduled to start in the wee hours Tuesday.
Jennifer Swanson, Project Manager with Skagit County Public Works said La Conner Whitney Road will be resurfaced from the La Conner round-about north to McLean Road.
Work will begin at 2 a.m. Tuesday when the county’s contractor, Lakeside Industries starts to grind the existing asphalt and lay new asphalt in the roundabout.
Construction on the portion of the project from the roundabout to the bridge over Sullivan Slough on the north end of town will be done in the middle of the night, Swanson said, to reduce the likelihood of impacting traffic.
Skagit Public Works set the construction hours on that first leg of the resurfacing from 2 to 5 a.m. each morning, with completion expected by Friday, July 31.
The rest of the work will be conducted during the day, with flaggers controlling traffic.
By Thursday, August 6, the entire project is expected to be completed.
The $643,000 resurfacing is being paid for by the state, Swanson said.
