KARL C. HAMMER

Shelter Bay resident Karl C. Hammer died at age 77 on Thursday, August 27 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle with his family at his side.

Karl was born to Carl Einer and Enora Ash Hammer on June 27, 1938 and grew up in Southern California.

In 1958 he married Rosemary Holmes. They moved to Huntington Beach, where they raised their three children. Karl worked in the customer service department of Western Airlines at the Los Angeles International Airport.

In 1978, Karl married Barbara Boehm, who survives him. The couple had made their home in Washington for the last 21 years, including six years in Shelter Bay.

Karl is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Chris and Tina Hammer; his daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Raz Jessen; and his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Kristin Hammer. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Shane, Samantha and Slater Hammer; Brooke, Hanna and Hailey Jessen; and Aidan, Devin, Sierra and Kingston Hammer.

Karl was a kind and generous soul. He had a shy smile that was always there. If you needed a hand, his was always ready to help. The joy he found in this welcoming community made his retirement years the best!

His greatest joy was being a “Soroptimister” at Vintage La Conner, helping the Soroptimist ladies run the thrift store.

A memorial service was held on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Karl’s name to Soroptimists International of La Conner, P.O. Box 1049, La Conner WA, 98257.
