KATHRYN NADINE REINSTRA

Longtime La Conner resident Kathryn Nadine Reinstra died at age 82 on Wednesday, February 10.

Nadine was born May 19, 1933 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Sylvan and Mildred McCoy.

She moved to Washington when she was about 10 years old. Her mom married Tom Potter in 1946; Mildred and Tom owned and ran the Waterfront Café in La Conner.

Nadine graduated from La Conner High School in 1951. While in high school she met the love of her life, Joe Reinstra of Oak Harbor. They were married July 14, 1951.

They resided in La Conner, where Joe worked for Dunlap Towing Co. and Nadine raised their two children, Michael and Jody.

Nadine later went to work for National Bank of Commerce in La Conner and Rainier Bank in Mount Vernon. In 1976 Joe and Nadine moved to Olympia to run the Dunlap Towing Olympia log yard — Joe ran the yard and Nadine was the bookkeeper.

They retired in 1996 and moved back to the valley and lived at the Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington.

Joe and Nadine loved to travel and took many trips to Reno, to Arizona and to their favorite place, Kona, Hawaii. There was never a couple who enjoyed each other more than Joe and Nadine did.

Friends and family were a “very” important part of their lives. After Joe’s death in 2004, Nadine and her daughter Jody were constant companions. In addition to her husband Joe, Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and her son Michael.

She is survived by daughter Jody (Lance) Masonholder, grandchildren Brian (Megan) Masonholder, Kate (Pete) McCullough, Heidi Masonholder and Aaron (Jamie) Reinstra. She also leaves her great-grandchildren Maya and Brogan Masonholder, Luke and Josie McCullough, Ashlyn, Erick and Addison Reinstra, her special sister-in-law Kathi (Mike) Hawkings, brothers-in-law Glen and Jim Reinstra and sister-in-law Nancy Reinstra.

If you would like to make a donation in Nadine’s name, the family suggests the La Conner Fire Dept. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for keeping her comfortable during her last days, also a huge thank-you to the La Conner Retirement Inn’s staff for their never-ending love and compassion to Nadine and our family.

A graveside service was held on Saturday at Hawthorne Memorial Park.
