This is a simple thank-you to Fire District 13 Chief Roy Horn, the five paramedics and the two EMTs who arrived at my home two Fridays ago.
I was in distress. I lost balance, breathing was heavy, heart was racing and my brain was spinning. I thought I was having a heart attack. I had never lost control of my body before and I was scared. I called 911 and these folks arrived in no time.
They took readings, did an EKG and held my hand. My readings were high, but this was not a heart attack. I cried and asked them what was wrong with my body. One of the EMTs sat next to me and asked if I had experienced any stress recently.
I had. My husband of 40 years had died three weeks before. They helped me understand what was happening, and I will forever appreciate their professionalism, compassion and composure. Chief Horn, you have a great team of young men, and I thank you for your support.
