La Conner High School and Middle School principal Cheryl Sullivan gave notice she’s resigning, effective June 30.
Sullivan, who was hired two years ago, has not specifically stated why she is leaving but said “personal reasons” when reached for comment.
The school district provided this newspaper with a copy of the email she sent in late April to announce her resignation, and no reason was given then in the brief message.
The school board accepted her resignation at their most recent meeting, and now the search is on for someone to fill her position.
Three finalist candidates for the “secondary principal” position have been announced and will be interviewed at a public parent and community forum this Thursday, May 25.
The three final candidates are Michelle Bruski-Dumpert, formerly Assistant Principal at Gig Harbor High School, Douglas Shook, currently Assistant Principal at Bryn Mawr Elementary School in Renton, and Todd Torgeson, who is currently Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Sedro Woolley High School.
The selected final candidate will have been screened by teachers, administrators, community members and by the new superintendent, Whitney Meissner, Seeling said, and will begin July 1.
“We’re looking for someone who’s a strong instructional leader and has a good discipline plan. Someone who will focus on improving student achievement and on attendance,” Seeling said. “And someone who works well with the community.”
Sullivan came to La Conner in 2015 from Chief Sealth School District in Seattle.
