La Conner seventh grader, Delaney Cobbs, has been wrestling competitively for over 6 years.
That’s half your life when you are only 12 years old. Delaney’s long list of athletic accomplishments in that six years is very impressive considering her age.
Earlier this month, Delaney took 3rd place at the Women’s Nationals Tournament in Tyler, Texas. Delaney competed in the 137-pound weight class Freestyle division.
This tournament is a US National Team qualifying tournament, which means all high school age girls who place first or second in their weight class can go on to compete for Team USA internationally.
Delaney trains with and competes for the regionally based Vandit Wrestling Academy. Her hard work has earned her a great deal of success this year. In addition to her placing at nationals, Delaney wrestled in the Washington State Championships last month, finishing 3rd in Greco, 2nd in Freestyle and clinching the Folkstyle Championship, all in the 137-pound weight division.
Delaney also won the Folkstyle championship in The War of Roses West Coast Nationals in Belfair, Washington earlier this spring.
This grappling phenom is not only successful in the ring, Delaney is an honor roll student at La Conner Middle School where she also competes in soccer, track, and, of course, wrestling.
