Your independent hometown award-winning newspaper
Hope you enjoyed your 4th of July, and honored our founding.
Did you review the Declaration of Independence, which states, in part: “…all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights…..”?
What does that mean? Unalienable rights are rights bestowed upon mankind by our Creator, as exposed by Cicero as Saxon nature law, which were granted us as inalienable rights in the Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution.
Are they absolute individual rights? Yes, ideally; but not practically: We are not Robinson Crusoes!
Point: Everyone’s rights end where another’s begin; i.e. one’s nose, property line, privacy, and/or pocket book.
Our unalienable rights come from our creator, and the signers of the Declaration of Independence honored them, while “We the people…” added them to the U.S. Constitution, as inalienable rights.
In other words: The Declaration of Independence “weaned” the colonists, who were subjects of the King of England, and made them citizens of the United States!
It is hoped you reflected upon our founding on the 4th of July, a national “Holy Day,” and appreciate that one’s rights are only as good as the morality of those involved.
