Your independent hometown award-winning newspaper
Letters to the editor are important. Thank God for attentive readers. You are the eyes and ears of the town, not me. If I did stop at every bar and coffee shop every day I would only skim the surface of La Conner reality.
Are there questions about the Port’s marina whose answers need to be found out? I don’t know.
Now I know to start asking questions. If there are critical answers they’ll get printed in the paper.
Lights on the bridge. Good idea. Careful readers know the County pays the electrical bill. Lobbying for funds for paying the bill might be a coming citizen initiative. This paper supports lighting – and paying the bill.
The Rainbow Bridge’s 60th anniversary made the paper. The bridge is better than it looks. Is there interest in nudging the powers that be to at least a good power washing in 2017 on the way to its next paint job? Good idea?
Those empty storefronts on Morris. They stand out to me every day. I wonder about them when I come into town. If this is such an idyllic tourist community, why aren’t businesses knocking down doors to rent here? Is our local economy less vibrant than we believe it is? More than the Weekly News needs to be digging into that question. More thought and planning than an article in the paper, or even a series, needs to be committed to answering that one.
Keep your eyes and ears open for day to day itches you need to scratch. Report your itches here. Pressing issues will be pursued as this paper has resources to pursue them. You will get support in your scratching if your tips have substance.
Without your reporting you will only read about my itches and learn how I am tackling scratching them. And I am as interested in your itches – more so, really – than mine.
What’s on your minds that folks need to know that might be pressing community concerns?
And, as readers told with me Monday, news of neighbors and family: graduations, marriages, trips and visits from familiy and friends – will also greatly round out the paper.
Share. Let us know. Inquiring minds want to find out.
