School district enrollment up 61 students

It may or may not be crowded at La Conner’s elementary and high school buildings, but there are 22 more elementary students and 19 more high school students this year than last year. The school district counted 586 students enrolled in its report to the state’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. That tops last year’s 543 students by 43, an eight percent increase.

District administrators estimated 525 students would attend this year. The 586 enrolled are 61 additional students, an 11 percent increase.

That’s “GREAT NEWS!” District Superintendent Whitney Meissner emailed to her staff last Thursday afternoon. Meissner shared that the district is up 12 on “choice/transfer:” the net of students choosing schools is up 12 coming into the district versus students or their parents choosing to leave La Conner schools.

“I am very excited to know that parents in our community believe in La Conner Schools and trust us with their children,” Dr. Meissner said.
