Brew comes to Slough Saturday

It doesn’t get any more local than the third annual Brew on the Slough at Maple Hall Oct. 21. La Conner Brewing Company, the most local participant, is one of several breweries using Skagit Valley grains. Seattle-based Pike Brewing names a beer “Pike Locale Skagit Valley Alba” using the malt from Skagit Valley Malt.

Farmstrong, from Mount Vernon, will be pouring beers made with local grains. Farmstrong’s Todd Owsley emphasized “the mission of our brewery is to showcase agricultural viability and the sustainability of the Skagit Valley. We use 100 percent grains and malt when possible. All our beer this weekend is made from 100 percent Skagit Valley grains.”

Chuckanut Brewing & Kitchen, at The Port of Skagit and in Bellingham, is the other local brewery pouring. Co-owner Mari Kemper wants attendees to try their “award-winning beer that are very easy to drink and extremely fresh. They are very drinkable.”

Eight breweries and two cideries are participating in this ticketed event. The Sardines, a local classic rock band, will be playing. Food will be available to purchase.

The silent auction’s premier items for this Chamber fundraiser are an overnight getaway to Swinomish Casino and a bucket containing a sample of beers. There are also a variety of items from local merchants.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The $30 tickets can be purchased at the door and include 10 pours. Designated driver tickets are $10. The first 200 ticket holders get a souvenir tasting glass. Tickets and information: http://www.lovelaconner.com or Facebook at @LoveLaConner.

The La Conner Chamber of Commerce organizes this fund-raiser. The La Conner Marina, Port of Skagit and Swinomish Casino & Lodge are event sponsors. Local sponsors include Mo’s Eclectic Gifts, La Conner Retirement Inn, Salon Rouge, Washington Federal, Vintage La Conner, La Conner Channel Lodge/Country Inn, Earthenworks Gallery, La Conner Seafood & Prime Rib, Swinomish Yacht Club and Fine Feathered Friends.
