PATTY DETZER

Patty Detzer, 68, passed away on January 8 surrounded by her 3 kids, at home in Seattle. She was born March 11, 1949.

A trail blazer, a pioneer, and a firecracker Patty was born in NYC New York, the rebellious daughter of Mildred and Arthur. She was an Art and Ceramics major at San Fransisco Art Institute and later at the University of Washington, with influences from the work of Frida, Diane Arbus, and Patti Smith.

Skagit Valley, Patty’s community, has greatly benefited from her loving, and generous hard work teaching and creating many beautiful mosaic and ceramic projects. Including projects for: Mount Vernon Senior Center, Community Action, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA classes, Skagit Valley Food Co Op, the US Forest Service, Island Elementary after school Art classes, Sea Mar, and Catholic Housing Services.

One of Patty’s favorite celebrations was The Day of the Dead, every year she would join with the Latino community for an event at the college to celebrate the glorious mystery of the end of life. She loved walking in the tide flats, watching the snow geese, gardening and traveling.

Patty is survived by her children Judah, Sarah, and Samantha, her brother Bruce, her sister in law Kathy, and two nephews Trevor and Wes from Washington DC. She will be missed greatly by her kids, her many friends, and whole community.
