ROBERT W. CUSHMAN November 18, 1939 - February 27, 2018

Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA to Wayman G. Cushman and Ruth Johnson Cushman. He grew up in San Dimas, CA in the family business, Cushman Hardware. Bob attended Cal Poly Pomona where he was very involved in student government and was Rose Parade float chairman. During this time, he was assigned to chaperone Patti Hamilton, cheerleader, and his future wife. Bob and Pat were married August 12, 1961 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in La Habra, CA.

In January of 1962, the family relocated Cushman Hardware to Payette, ID. While in Idaho, three children were welcomed: Robert William, Alexis Ann and Tracy Leigh. In 1969 Bob joined Champion Home Builders. Work with Champion took the family from Idaho to Slayton, MN, back to Idaho, eventually landing the family in Brigham City, UT.

While in Utah, Bob made an employment change to Thiokol ATK as financial manager for Space Shuttle Booster final assembly. During his time at Thiokol, Bob was selected as a launch honoree with a trip to Cape Canaveral, FL to view the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery.

One of Bob’s many passions was boating. He built his first boat in high school and as his family grew so did their boats. During his time in Utah he spent 25 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. It was Bob and Pat’s dream to retire to the Great Northwest. In 2003 they realized that dream as they lived aboard their boat while building their home in La Conner, WA. Bob enjoyed many trips with family, friends and the Shelter Bay Yacht Club boating around the San Juan and Gulf Islands. The highlight of many years boating was going north around Cape Caution, Canada with good friends.

Bob has always been very civic minded and community oriented. He was most proud of receiving the Rose Parade Theme Award from Norman Rockwell and Outstanding Auxiliarist from the Utah Parks Department for his contribution to boating safety. Bob is a past Commodore of the Shelter Bay Yacht Club.
