I am writing in response to the front page article April 4th issue – regarding the Birds of Winter meeting.
Apparently the reporter must have left the room, or at the very least, stopped listening part way through my comments.
The article states “Jo Wolfe, a board member representing the La Conner Chamber said ’We do care.
La Conner had the most successful event with its birding showcase,’ holding up her chamber’s success but not addressing farmer complaints.
Obviously you missed the end of my comments where I elaborated on how important farmers are to our area, how we value them as neighbors, etc.
And where I committed the La Conner Chamber to provide space and time at the next ‘Birding Showcase’ for farmers and/or their advocacy groups to share information about the impact the winter birds have on agriculture in the valley.
My suggestions included providing information so attendees could be better informed on the issues – and ways they could be ‘called to action’ to support the farmers.
In fact, one of the farmers commented that what I was proposing was EXACTLY what they were looking for.
You must have been called away to something much more important than listening to my complete comments.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but it is getting more and more difficult to weekly see people and organizations in our community misquoted or misrepresented.
Jo E. Wolfe, Secretary
La Conner Chamber
of Commerce Board
Wolfe’s finishing remarks here fills in and provides an important addition to her statement and to the article. – Editor
