La Conner High track teams race to District titles

La Conner High thinclads were definitely on the fast track Friday afternoon.

The fast track to twin District 1 championships, that is.

The Braves and Lady Braves track teams won their respective halves of the 2B side of District trials held at Mount Vernon High.

The La Conner boys outpointed runner-up Friday Harbor by a comfortable 226-87 margin. Concrete (60) finished third.

La Conner’s girls outdistanced Concrete 183-86, with Friday Harbor (46) taking bronze.

It was a wonderful-Lee spectacular day for head coach Jacob Grantham and his La Conner High track program.

The Braves’ Noah Lee won the 200 meter dash in 0:24.70, and placed second (0:12.23) in the 100 to teammate Arjuna Adams, who hit the tape at 0:12.23.

Lee and Adams also joined Bryce Bolsinger and Kaden Murdock on the Braves’ winning sprint relay entry. The La Conner quartet ran the 4x100 in 0:46.99.

For the Lady Braves, sprint standout Emma Lee – as has been the case much of the spring –swept the 100 and 200 meters.

She clocked a 0:12.85 100 and 0:26.61 200.

Lee also teamed with Addie Reinstra, Sage Burgmeier and Matty Lagerwey for a gold medal finish (0:52.40) in the sprint relay. Lee, Burgmeier, Lagerwey, and Anna Jane Thulen captured the 4x200 as well, posting a time of 1:53.70.

The Braves ran 1-2-3 in the District 400 meter dash.

Kaden Murdock mined gold in 0:55.48. Mason Murdock (1:00.76) and Isaiah Adams (1:02.48) also medaled.

Kaden Murdock won a second relay gold in the 4x400. He, Bolsinger, Andre Knudson and Arjuna Adams combined on a 3:41.64 finish to win the mile relay.

Arjuna Adams likewise was a multiple gold medalist. His 0:46.30 captured the 300 meter hurdles.

Nor was Kaden Murdock done for the day. He prevailed in the triple jump at 37’-0”, edging teammates Mason Miles and Joseph Musni.

The La Conner boys also took the top three spots in the javelin, led by Alden Schnabel’s 126’-2” toss. Bradey Wyles (122’-1”) and Boyce Charles (120’-9”) likewise made the medal stand.

Charlie Cram and Dawson Featherstone were solo gold winners for the Braves. Cram ran an 11:10.51 in the 3,200 meters. Featherstone, who placed second in the 200, won the high jump at 5’-0”.

Andre Knudson was a dual silver medalist, placing second in the 800 (2:10.71) and 1600 (4:46.42) meters.

Mason Miles picked up a silver in the long jump (16’-2 1/4”), while Scottie Miller finished third in the shot put (37’-1”), Mason Murdock claimed bronze in the discus (90’-2”), and Bolsinger placed third in the 300 hurdles at 0:47.24.

Lagerwey, Burgmeier and Addie Reinstra added significantly to the Lady Braves’ medal count.

Reinstra won both the 100 (0:17.91) and 300 (0:54.09) meter hurdles, setting a new personal mark in the former. She, Thulen, Justine Benson and Joanie Benson delivered the mile relay crown for the Lady Braves with a 0:5:08.16 finish.

Lagerwey topped both the long jump (16’-3 1/2”) and triple jump (32’-11”) fields, with Joanie Benson placing second in the latter.

Burgmeier triumphed in the javelin (117’-5”) and finished third in the shot put behind Concrete’s Becky Azure and La Conner’s Sarah Hastings.

Hastings added a discus gold (105’-2”) to her shot put silver, while Justine Benson added medal finishes in the high jump (second) and javelin (third).

The La Conner teams left Mount Vernon on pace to add more medals going forward, with Bi-District and State meets looming ahead later this month.
