Club awards students

The Rotary Club of La Conner awarded six scholarships totaling $14,000 to graduating La Conner High School students to pursue higher education. Congratulations to:

Abigail Harper, Fred Martin Academic Scholarship; Myken Hassler, Rotary Club of La Conner Academic Scholarship; Aubre Cunningham, Bert Langenhorst, Community Service Scholarship; Dawson Featherstone, Jim Hulbert Scholarship; Rylee O’Neil, Bob Hart Scholarship; and Katieann Cook, Rotary Club of La Conner Scholarship.

The club and its members also invested more than $25,000 in the community and other causes during its 2017-18 year, including a sign for the log park downtown; weekend backpacks of food sent home with needy students in the La Conner elementary school; dictionaries for La Conner third graders; the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books every month for La Conner District children from birth to age five; the La Conner After School Program; the La Conner Food Bank; Poetry in the Schools; the Children’s Museum of Skagit County; Oasis Teen Shelter; Habitat for Humanity; and several water, sanitation and literacy programs internationally.

Most of the club’s funding comes from our annual tulip sales in the spring and our fun and lively auction the last Saturday of August. Learn more about our auction at harvestinghopeauction.com. All are welcome.

La Conner Rotary is a hands-on service club dedicated to improving lives locally and around the world. We do this by promoting and investing in literacy, public health and community service. We are the club people want to join, because we have fun while making a difference.

The club meets most Mondays at 5:45 p.m. at The Farmhouse Restaurant. Guests and interested potential members are welcome. Learn more at laconneryrotary.org.
