TOM MINIFIE

Tom Minifie, age 73, of La Conner, Wash., passed away on Friday, August 17,, 2018, in his hometown of La Conner, surrounded by family and close friends after a five year battle with cancer. He was born October 1, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He grew up in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York City. Tom attended college in Ohio before serving in the Peace Corp in the Philippines and attending seminary in Philadelphia. In 1971 Tom was ordained a Priest in the Episcopal Church and served churches in Massachusetts, and Ohio before coming to Washington State where he preached in Ballard, Kirkland and Marysville.

Tom is survived by his three wonderful daughters: Alexis, Laura and Jane, as well as their mother, Jennifer. Tom has two granddaughters, Ella and Jean. He is also survived by his siblings, Chad, Ned, Bill and Kathy, sister-in-law Mary and eleven nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia, and his brother, Jonathan.

Tom also leaves behind his partner of thirteen years, Mary Davis. Together they owned Mary Davis Vintage Lighting in La Conner. As an amazing team, Tom and Mary created a destination business; their collaboration, attention to detail, as well as superior craftsmanship, and creativity left both tourist and buyers alike in awe of what they could make possible. The La Conner Town Hall, Nell Thorn, The La Conner Quilt Museum, Calico Cupboard and Anelia’s Kitchen are just a few examples of Tom’s work. Many homes throughout the Skagit Valley, the Seattle area and as far as London are adorned by their lighting, “The jewelry of the house.”

Tom was an active member of His Place Community Church in Burlington, Wash. He was not ashamed of the Gospel!

Tom’s ashes will be buried in the family plot in The Randolph Cemetery in New Hampshire.

There will be a celebration of Tom’s life at the Saltbox Barn in Conway, WA on Sunday September 9th, at 4pm with a reception to follow.
