Frances "Elaine" Jensen

Frances “Elaine” Jensen, 90, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2018, with family at her side while at Mira Vista Care Center.

Elaine was born at home, at the family farm, on Camano Island to Peter and Johanna (Ledal) Folden, on May 17, 1928. Being a first generation Norwegian American, her birthdate was special. In Norway this date, May 17th, is Norwegian Constitution Day, an official public holiday which began in 1814.

She attended school in Stanwood, where after graduating, she met her future husband, Francis “JR” Jensen, at a dance, having been introduced by Tandy Wilbur!

After marrying, Elaine and JR built their family home at Snee Oosh Beach. There they raised three daughters, four dogs, six plus cats and two horses ( the horses in a barn up the street of course) in a small house that did have a million dollar view!

Elaine was a homemaker, gardener - raising many varieties of beautiful flowers - and she worked as a secretary at LaConner High School for twenty years. She shared her love of Norwegian food with her family. Salt Herring, Pickled Herring, Lefse, Krumkake, Fattigmann, Norwegian Pancakes were and are family favorites. Lutefiske was hers alone!

Elaine’s passing was preceded by her parents; sisters, Anne, Thordis; brother, Peter; husband, Francis; and daughter, Jacque McCormick Mowrer, plus many four legged friends. She was adamant in her belief that if you had a pet, you took care of it!

Elaine is survived by her daughters, Kathy Jensen (Michael Ricci) and Nancy DeVries (Ryan); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

No services are planned, per her wishes. Any memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley. Cremation is under the care of Kern Funeral Home.
