By the end of October Skagit Public Utility District No.1’s almost three-mile construction project on Mclean Rd from Wall St. in Mount Vernon west to Beaver Marsh Rd will be finished. In this phase one stage over 13,600 feet of 12- inch PVC pipe replaces eight-inch water pipe installed in the 1960s, explained Kevin Tate, the district’s community relations manager.
Tate said the project will “improve the hydraulics in that part of the distribution system and increase reliability and durability,” providing greater volume.
This week the project will reach west of Penn Rd. Tate reminds people to “drive slow and look out for construction. We will be there again next spring.”
Faber Construction of Lynden has the $2.3 million project. Nov. 29 is the contract end date.
Phase two, replacing pipe to Best Rd., will be bid in the spring and is expected to be finished in 2019.
The district advanced the schedule and coordinated the project with Skagit County, which will overlay and pave the road once phase two is done.
Skagit PUD has the largest water system in the county, serving 65,000 people. The district runs from Conway to Alger and Lake Samish and from Marblemount onto Fidalgo Island.
La Conner purchases its water from the City of Anacortes.
