Novel dog saves Skagit vet practice

Nicola Pearson’s latest book, “The Gift,” is a romp through the hills and valleys of Skagit County and a no-holds-barred peek into owning and working in a small animal veterinary practice. Human and animal interactions are enmeshed with compassion and humor in a way that anyone, but especially an animal lover, will appreciate and enjoy completely. One little stray dog has an especially substantial impact on them all, leading to unexpected outcomes.

Hailing from England, Pearson now resides with her husband and children in the beautiful upper Skagit County. Her writing career includes novels, children’s books and a mystery series. In addition, she is a playwright and actress. Her acting experience shines through in one of “The Gift’s” sassy characters who is prone to slipping in Shakespearian quotes at appropriate moments.

Seaport Books will be hosting a meet the author reading Jan 17, 4:30 p.m. Pearson will be accompanied by Dr. Timothy O’Rourke who asked her to write this book and is given credit on the cover.

Dogs are welcome.
