Local romantic hot spots

No one will argue that LaConner exudes romance. This little town on the Swinomish channel offers all the right elements for a special evening out or weekend away. Its vote as “Best Romantic Spot” by Romantic Getaways of Washington State heralds this across the region and around the world. But where do the locals rendezvous for romance?

A typical intimate evening might begin with dinner at the Nell Thorn Restaurant & Pub. This is Kim Broadhead’s favorite place to begin a special celebration. That is, if she has the evening off from running Stompin’ Ground Coffee Co.

Matt Wend, the IT director for the LaConner Library, prefers the Oyster & Thistle to romance his wife. Linda Olsson and Maralynne Powell, a docent at the Museum of NW Art, agree. They prefer the restaurant’s linen tablecloths and “little booth for two.”

After a gourmet dinner by candlelight, Teresa Scott suggests a walk down the boardwalk as a lovely way to leisurely extend the evening. She likes to cap off the evening with a glass of wine at Hellam’s Wine Vineyard on the north end of town.

Or, stroll south and find La Conner Sips, where one can enjoy a glass of wine on the boardwalk while watching the sunset. Meander down the dock to stand at sea level with a starry sky above. This is the perfect backdrop for a first kiss or one that is well practiced after many years.
