If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it.
That’s the approach La Conner Schools officials have taken to fill a vacancy on the district’s board of directors.
La Conner area civic leader Susie Gardner Deyo was sworn in Monday night by school board president Janie Beasley. She succeeds John Thulen.
Deyo has strong backgrounds in both business and education,
Deyo’s selection was immediately lauded by those familiar with her tireless work on behalf of the La Conner Alumni Association, La Conner Civic Garden Club and Skagit County Pioneer Association, among other public service commitments.
A 1978 La Conner High grad, Deyo went on to the University of Washington where her academic work landed her a position with IBM, the famed multinational technology company.
Deyo will represent the school board’s rural Director District No. 5 for a term that expires in 2021.
The board, which meets on the fourth Monday of each month, is responsible, with Superintendent Whitney Meissner, for developing educational programs consistent with district resources and the La Conner community’s needs and aspirations.
Thulen resigned in February after serving on the five-member panel for a decade.
