Rally for Mueller report release in Mount Vernon

Skagit Valley citizens wanting the Mueller Report released to the public gathered on the steps of the County Courthouse in Mount Vernon on Thursday. Indivisible Skagit organized the rally. Signs included “We Paid for It” and “Let us read the damn report.”

Sue Bloomfield organized the event. She wants U.S. Attorney General William Barr to release the unredacted report to Congress, the House Judiciary Committee and the public.

Deb Hubenthal and her husband Graham came from south Conway to join the 25 people standing on the four corners at South 2nd Street and Kincaid Streets.

Hubenthal said she views herself as a representative of those who don’t have time during the day to come out to protest. As she spoke, cars drove by honking. Hubenthal called the honking a show of support. “See?” Hubenthal said. “There’s lots of support.”

While some drivers or people watching did not agree with the protesters, Hubenthal had a positive take, saying that the goal was not to insult, but to inspire people to become involved.

Christine Kohnert wondered about “unusual behavior towards Russia,” and described the whole issue as “unsettling.” She has concerns that the report could have potential consequences to national security.

A four page summary of the over 300 page Mueller Report was released by the attorney general March 24. Barr has not said if a full copy will be provided to Congress or the public.

MoveOn organized ssimilar events around the nation. The MoveOn website listed 327 report-related protests on April 4.
