Georgia's on my mind

This has to be one of the most surprising stories of the year. Either that or I am completely out of touch.

I have known Georgia and her sister Maggie from shortly after we moved to the area in 1988; mainly from art and poetry circles. Shortly after that Georgia’s bread became our daily bread; our only one until she went to work for the school district. If something was wrong she would say so but with a smile and love.

People can have differences with others but when that other is the superintendent of schools and your boss, it is imperative that the differences are worked out early. If Superintendent Meissner’s only problems were with Georgia it would be a 50 /50 chance of where the problem originates. But when 80 percent of the employees that you are in charge of have a problem with you that chance pretty much becomes 0 / 100.

I would suggest that a citizens committee look into what the problem(s) might be, with the superintendent’s dismissal a possibility. The board’s lack of action also needs to be reviewed. If this is not solved it could easily migrate to the ballot box.

We have no children in the La Conner schools but we do care about schools and the kids they educate – especially at this time in the US.

La Conner is a relatively small school district and this is a problem that will not just disappear.

Sincerely

Allen Elliott
