Take meds to Swinomish PD Oct. 26

Get your unneeded medications out of your house Oct. 26. Take them to the Swinomish Tribal Police Department, 17353 Reservation Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Swinomish Tribe is hosting this prescription drug take back day for both prescription and over-the-counter medications. Medications can stay in their original containers and labels do not need to be removed. Medications not in their original containers will be accepted too.

United General District 304 is a partner in preventing opioid misuse in community. Erynn Sendrick, program coordinator with United General District 304, writes, “National Drug Take Back Day is a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired meds. No questions asked!”

While the Swinomish Police Department offers year-round medication take back services, National Drug Take Back Day is an opportunity to inform and educate everyone about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the importance of safe storage, use and disposal.

Safely disposing of medications stops them from being misused.

Participating in take back events is one thing that individuals can do to help positively impact the opioid crisis and protect loved ones.

The Washington State Health Care Authority reports “75 percent of opioid misuse starts with people using medication that wasn’t prescribed for them – usually taken from a friend or family member.”

National Drug Take Back Day events will be happening all over Skagit County.

Funding for this take back comes from the Washington State Health Care Authority and Swinomish Tribe.
