School board votes are for change

The people of La Conner have spoken!

By an overwhelming margin, the citizens of La Conner voted to fundamentally change our school board. The message voters sent is clear: changing the leadership of our district is absolutely necessary for us to move forward in the best interest of the students, families, teachers and support staff of La Conner Schools!

The La Conner community has been speaking out for months, attending school board meetings in record numbers, calling and writing board members, participating in grassroots organizing efforts, asking questions at forums, following developments in the newspaper and putting “Vote for Change” campaign signs in their yards!

There can be no doubt about the way the vast majority of the community feels, but our work is not finished. Citizens must stay informed and involved. We achieved many of the goals we set, but not all. It is up to all of us to keep pushing and keep questioning, for excellence cannot come from complacency.

I am so proud of our community and our demonstration of democracy, and I am hopeful that even more positive change awaits!
