Your independent hometown award-winning newspaper

Sanders yes; "Emperor" no

Since moving here a bit over a year ago to make Shelter Bay my residence I have met many fine folks in my neighborhood and on walks around town.

Since living here I have appreciated the photos, musings and editorial comments the editor of this paper has put in this Weekly as so many of them have spoken to my sense of self.

I subscribe to the paper because I feel it is an important vehicle for folks to read and interact with other community members, if only in the comfort of their own homes.

And I like to know what’s going on around this area of our beautiful Pacific Northwest, concerts, festivals, art shows, theatre and all.

I’m completely happy to read about what individuals in the community are up to and think about in this small town, as La Conner is so much like other small towns across our vast country.

Last week’s editorial particularly hit a note with me and I thank you, for calling out the “Emperor” in the White House – the True Radical who has set this country back by decades for all the reasons given, plainly stated, and in the face of his supporters. If only the Senate had not been bought out by corporations – military and industrial – then perhaps “they” would have worked harder to put another Republican candidate on the ticket. I’m sure there may be reasonable choices from the Republican Party – men or women – who would stand by the guidance of the Constitution and not be intimidated by presence of the “Chief’” celebrity!

Many thanks for reminding all of us to vote. If nothing else it gives us a reason to gripe about the government if things do not go our way. On the other hand, we should only lay blame on ourselves if those “things” get out of hand.

By the way, your description of Bernie made me laugh, as the last time I actually heard someone use the word milquetoast to describe another was from the mouth of my mid-west grandmother. As I remember, that was the epitome of a put-down for her to call someone such a name.

One more comment: Folks should take the time to look up descriptions of socialism. True socialism reduces the disparity in wealth. Using that word as a put-down just shows how ignorant some are of its meaning.

Isn’t it way past time for U.S. citizens to understand that we are failing as moral human beings if we allow the top 1% (individuals and corporations) to renege on their responsibility to the less fortunate?
