Kandis Susol’s ‘Embrace’ at FORUM Arts

By: Meg Holgate

Before coaxing each piece of waxed and resin-coated paper into place, Kandis Susol begins her day with a meditation. In the small studio space allocated to her practice on Orcas Island, Susol brings concentration, tranquility and mindfulness, central tenets of Zen Buddhism, to her work. The artist’s exhibition, “Embrace,” now at FORUM Arts, asks the viewer to engage in the quiet observations of the slow and deliberate flow of life. These contemplations are clearly imbued in her sculpted panels, formed from a gently choreographed understanding of the rhythms and sensations found in our natural world.

FORUM Arts invites viewers to connect with Susol’s work through the window. It is on display through August 3. To view the work inside the gallery, please call to make an appointment at 360-202-1474 or 206-992-0444. The gallery will kindly require you to wear a mask to support the health of our community.
