Margy Lavelle and Ries Niemi in Seattle Deconstructed Art Fair

As an alternative to the canceled Seattle Art Fair this year, the Seattle Deconstructed Art Fair, 2020 (SDAF) brings art to the public in a blend of online and physical art displays. Margy Lavelle and Ries Niemi, from the Skagit Valley, are two of the 47 artists participating as Northwest artists and galleries team up. Lavelle will provide her work online and display it in the windows of her Edison gallery, i.e., while Niemi’s work will be on display at his outdoor site on a date not yet determined.

The show serves as an alternative to Paul Allen’s Seattle Art Fair, canceled due to COVID-19. Now the ideas and images are reduced to constituent parts so that they can be reinterpreted and reconstructed, the Seattle-based group announced. The show will also promote local businesses and showcase the work still underway by community artists.

The SDAF show begins Aug. 6 and continues for one month. The program draws from the same artists who had planned to create artwork for the Seattle Art fair. All gallery displays will be designed to accommodate the Washington State Safe Start mandate. There will be no opening parties scheduled.

Other galleries participating include the Greg Kucera Gallery, J. Rinehart Gallery, studio e, Harris/Harvey Gallery, Foster/White Gallery and Traver Gallery.
