Your independent hometown award-winning newspaper
Dear Editor:
Won’t you join the Skagit League of Women Voters as we celebrate the incredible work of the election clerks, staff, officials in our community? These heroes in our community have done the seemingly impossible: adapted to the challenges COVID-19 posed to our elections process and made voting this year safe, secure and accessible for all.
Washington state is a national leader with a time-tested mail in ballot process which has been in place more than a decade. Over that time, the process is continuously analyzed and refined to improve its effectiveness and safety.
A strong democracy is one where everyone participates, and where everyone can see into the process and how it works. Our elections are transparent – we can view online when our ballot has been sent, when it was accepted. And on those occasions where voters have a need to talk with someone in the elections office in our county, phone calls are answered promptly by friendly, knowledgeable staff members.
The elections office, under the Skagit County Auditor’s Department, is a team of skilled, dedicated individuals who are committed to making our democracy work. Our local elections staff, along with the U.S. Postal Service employees are integral to safe, dependable elections during this record breaking year. Let’s take a few minutes to thank and acknowledge these civil servants for their efforts.
