La Conner Rotary Club elves update Santa

MEMO

The North Pole – Elf Department

Attn: Santa

I am so excited that the Holiday Season is finally here and that all the elves around the world are ready to spread nothing but Christmas Cheer!

I am honored to have been given the Elf assignment to watch and listen to the Rotary Club of La Conner to report to Santa what he might be missing!

I take my responsibilities and sit on my virtual shelf monitoring everything they do. The first thing I discovered is that they have been meeting virtually since March via ZOOM meetings to ensure each of their 39 active and honorary members are safe during this time of COVID-19.

This year, as I have been overseeing the behaviors of the Rotarians, I have not been able to find anything to report other than VERY good behaviors! I believe it might have something to do with the Rotary 4 Way Test – Of What We Think, Say or Do:

1) Is it the TRUTH?

2) Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3) Will it build GOODWILL and better friendships?

4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

It is quite clear to me with those guiding principles, Rotarians search out Service Above Self and are fully committed to the Community of La Conner and the world beyond. Although COVID-19 has prevented many of the standard Holiday activities such as the Santa Breakfast, Santa at the Parade of Boats, the Holiday Parade, the Rotarians are finding safe ways to help the community and stop the spread of COVID-19. Here are just a few of the projects I have seen them planning and creating:

4 Families have been adopted by Rotary Club of La Conner in concert with SPARC (Skagit Preschool & Resource Center)

450 Luminaries are being created in concert with Connect La Conner to be placed along First Street the evening of Friday, Dec. 14 to attract shoppers to help our small town merchants (Support Local Business – http://www.lovelaconner.com)

2 Holiday Banners – On display Dec. 5-Jan. 2 for families to safely take Holiday Pictures (located at Washington Park by the Gazebo and just west of the La Conner Library at the closed Thift Store location)

All in all, my report and witnessing of Rotary Club of La Conner is definitely NICE, not NAUGHTY!
