Praise for La Conner Drug and Island Drug

Both stores have the same owner(s) who are doing heroic work under a system that can only, politely, be called a disaster. It is part of the price that the U.S. is paying for having had Trump in the White House.

An hour and a half after the stores sent their first email that they would begin vaccinations in mid-January (in Oak Harbor, in Island County), we signed up for a Jan. 18 appointment. However, the next week their vaccine stock was taken for Skagit County’s medical workers so our appointment changed to Feb. 1. Skagit County finished more quickly than expected so we were then given Jan. 25 – to their credit they have kept everyone in their original order. Then they did not get stock as expected and the date went back to Feb. 1. Now this week they did not get the doses they expected and will be able to vaccinate only on Monday Tuesday.

I am not sure if we even live in a third world country. When you place an order with Amazon within minutes they know where that product is in their system and can tell you when it will be delivered and 95% or so of the time they meet that schedule.

By mid-December it should have been known how much product would be needed, where it would come from and how much would be delivered to each location. Of course Trump had not ordered anything near the amount that is needed. How can anyone run a business under these conditions?

I believe that when possible programs such as the vaccinations should be handled by businesses such as Island and La Conner Drug. Their website and scheduling procedure shames any of the government sites that I have been on.

I hope that we can all find a way thru this.
