The Soroptimist Honored Student for April, Annaliese Whitney, has varied talents and interests that she shares with family, friends and community members. Annaliese, a senior at La Conner High School, admitted that she is a bit of a procrastinator, but somehow she finds time for family, school, band, softball and volunteering!
Her favorite classes in high school have been band, English and history. Annaliese has played the clarinet since 5th grade. She plays in the high school band and also the pep band.
This multi-talented student used to play select softball in the 6th grade. She has played 1st base and 3rd base for the varsity softball team all four of her high school years.
Annaliese started volunteering as part of an 8th grade graduation requirement and she caught the volunteering “bug.” Her favorite volunteering is working with the kids and babies at the Inspire Church nursery. She thinks the kiddos are fun and adorable! Annaliese has also volunteered walking dogs, has helped at the La Conner Retirement Inn, and helps her Grandma clean the Anacortes Soroptimist Thrift Store.
Annaliese has accepted an offer from Western Washington University to study education. She knew she wanted to be a teacher before her volunteering started. She would like to teach music or early education. We wish her much success in her future studies.
Aaron and Dianna are Annaliese’s proud parents. They will take over all of the responsibility of caring for the family’s dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks and geese. Annaliese’s parents are pleased that she is attending college nearby so she can come home for visits.
Annaliese will receive a gift certificate to Vintage La Conner Thrift, a Soroptimist shop run by volunteers for the benefit of women and students in the community - and made possible by the generous donations of the community.
