La Conner library expands open hours

Fully open library adds Saturday hours

The library is fully open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. During the time businesses were restricted to curbside service, we worked on numerous projects and priorities in preparation for the upcoming transition to the new library. Moving an entire library requires quite a bit of organization and effort. We have removed some of the furniture in the library to provide more space for browsing and movement. The extra space is also part of prioritizing the collection in preparation for the move into the new library next year.

We have seen many visitors already in July, and it has been a delight to have in-person interactions again. Curbside service is still available upon request for anyone who asks. Masks are welcomed but not required. However you are most comfortable, please stop by and visit us today!

Library programs this summer

Two children’s programs are available at the library each week throughout the summer, provided by our children’s specialist, Katryna Barber. There is a craft program Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., and we have fun experiments planned with rainbows, UV light, and color wheels. There is a preschool story time Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. with fun stories and songs. Our summer reading program is available for all school age children through the middle of August. The theme this year is “color.” Activity schedules and reading tracking sheets are available at the library.

Tech help hours on Wednesdays

Our weekly in-person tech help hours are also returning to Wednesdays from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Call to sign up for a time to get tech help on a variety of topics from our technology specialist, Mat Wend.

Discovery Pass

Remember that the library has Washington State Discovery Passes available for check-out. Pick one up and day trip to any of our nearby state parks. It’s the perfect time to get to know our area better and enjoy the summer sunshine. When coupled with our Audubon Society Birding Backpacks, you are just a picnic lunch away from a great day!

Portable telescope

If you prefer the cool night sky to the summer sunshine, check out our portable Orion Starblast telescope. This is a small, lightweight telescope that you can use at home, or drive to more remote areas for improved viewing. Far away galaxies await you! This item is available to patrons 18 years of age and older.

New library construction update

We have awarded the contract to Tiger Construction. Tiger has over 30 years of experience in both public and private commercial building and civil construction. We look forward to working with them. We are in the final planning stages before beginning construction, and a groundbreaking date will be announced in August.
