There were no net gains for La Conner High soccer teams last week.
But all was not lost, either.
The boys came very close to upending unbeaten NW2B frontrunner Orcas before falling 3-1 on the island Saturday afternoon to a team which has opened the fall with seven straight wins.
The team was locked in a 1-1 tie late in the second half after Christian Fix scored on an assist from Spencer Olson.
But the Vikings closed with two goals in the final 10 minutes to extend La Conner’s losing skid to three games, each by identical 3-1 scores. The Braves came up short Oct. 5 at Coupeville and at home Oct. 7 to Friday Harbor.
La Conner (5-5) had won four straight up to that point. The Braves resumed conference play yesterday at Whittaker Field opposite Providence Classical Christian (7-1), which trails only Orcas in conference standings.
La Conner visits winless Cedar Park Christian (0-8) this Friday at 4 p.m.
On the girls’ side of the NW2B soccer standings, La Conner was blanked 4-0 by Friday Harbor at home last Thursday, falling to 0-5 going into yesterday’s match at undefeated Mount Vernon Christian.
The Lady Braves are at Coupeville 6 p.m. Thursday and visit Friday Harbor next Monday (Oct. 18) at 4:30 p.m.
