Pause. Can we take a pause?
Maybe it is time for a pause. The joy of Halloween is behind us and the rush to the end of the year holiday season is not yet started, although a well-planned Christmas tree is twinkling in Heather Smith’s Latitude Longitude shop.
Election returns, while preliminary, may be telling – or not. The first tallies came after these words were crafted.
Will election results in La Conner make people cheerful? Certainly for at least the winning candidates and their families. Will Mary Wohleb wake up to find she is the only woman on council?
Will Annie Taylor find out next week that she is one of three women on council?
The times they are a changin’. Sunday we will all wake up more relaxed, having gotten an extra hour of sleep as 2 a.m. repeated itself and we slipped back into standard time. For some, it is their favorite weekend of the year.
We can all use a rest, more than an hour every six months. La Conner was given a wonderful gift of blue sky, bright sun and mild weather last weekend. Kids of every age reveled in Friday’s Halloween parade. Then, on Sunday they dressed up again and sought more candy.
Well after the candy buzz wears off, may we all just as joyfully march toward Thanksgiving and on to Christmas and the end of the year.
May we all always pull together, as so many did for the parade.
And may we all properly, for all our social and out and about occasions, wear our masks and keep our distances.
