UPDATE: La Conner council election vote totals little changed

Ivan Carlson on his way to election

In the closest race for a seat on La Conner’s town council, Councilmember Bill Stokes gained four votes as six of the eight votes counted Wednesday by Skagit County elections office staff went to him. He still trails challenger Rick Dole, 152 to 130 votes. Ivan Carlson took all nine votes, increasing his margin to 22.1% in the contest for Position 2, held by John Leaver. Councilmember MaryLee Chamberlain won seven of the eight votes cast for the Position 5 seat and now has 77.8% of the vote against Glen Johnson.

For Fire District 13 Commissioner 2, John Doyle is at 80.6%, with 768 votes to Eric Day’s 184 votes.

The three La Conner school board candidates increased their vote totals. Jeremy Wilbur received 80 more votes to total 904, Susan Deyo gained 77 votes for 854 and Amanda Bourgeois 74 votes for 826.

In the Anacortes mayor’s race, Councilmember Mike Miller has taken a 152 vote lead, with 3,207 votes, against fellow Councilmember Ryan Walters’ 3,055 votes. Tuesday night Miller was up by eight votes.

Mahlon Hull has a 959 vote lead, 53.7% of the total with 6,444 votes in the race for Port of Skagit Commissioner 3 against Griffin Berger, who has 5,485.

Wednesday elections staff estimated there were 9,000 votes left to be counted from the county’s 121 precincts. They will announce new totals by 5 p.m. today.

It is not known how many La Conner ballots are uncounted. In 2019 Mayor Ramon Hayes won 340 votes in an uncontested election. Last year 730 votes were cast for president in the La Conner precinct.

Skagit County will certify the election Nov. 23. The Washington secretary of state certifies all elections statewide Dec. 2.

The Weekly News will continue to post election updates online.
