Lots of happenings at the library

2021 Festival of Tiny Trees

From “Kiss Me Under the MistleJoe,” to “Skagit Valley Tree of Plenty,” 29 tabletop trees featured in local businesses created a buzz in downtown La Conner last weekend, as the holiday season kicked off with the Festival of Tiny Trees Trail.

Started five years ago in the library as a silent auction of decorated tabletop trees, the event took a year off in 2020.

This year a new twist featured local merchants, many of whom wanted to showcase a tree in their shops.

A total of 29 trees were decorated by local businesses and organizations or individuals in the community and were displayed last week both in shops and online.

A cadre of volunteers were organized by Friends of the La Conner Library to serve as ambassadors and points of contact along Morris and First Streets, answering questions and helping with the purchasing process.

All trees were offered for a recommended donation, with proceeds going to support the interior and furnishings for the new La Conner Swinomish Library.

As of Monday, 22 trees sold and with additional donations, the fundraising total is more than $8,000. The success of this year’s Tiny Trees Trail was made possible by many volunteers’ and merchants’ generosity of time, talent and treasure to create unique, creative tabletop trees; volunteers who served as points of contact during the three-day event throughout downtown; and the event planning team from the Friends, Chamber and Foundation. For a complete list of all who contributed, please visit the Donors and Sponsors page through the Festival of Tiny Trees Trail event page.
