La Conner High School volleyball foes were not just way out of their league this past season. They were hardly in the same state.
Undefeated La Conner, which captured its third consecutive state volleyball crown last month, has continued to score points in the post-season – its players garnering a slew of All-League honors and the Lady Braves being recognized as the 2B State Team of the Month.
The accolades did not stop there.
Players and head coach Suzanne Marble dominate the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association 2B All-State lineup announced last week.
Marble, a member of the association’s Hall of Fame, was selected Class 2B Coach of the Year after guiding La Conner to a 24-0 mark in regular season and playoff matches enroute to claiming the program’s sixth state title.
Her daughter, junior outside hitter Ellie Marble – the NW2B Most Valuable Player and Skagit Valley Herald Player of the Year – was voted the Washington State 2B Player of the Year. Four teammates join her on the 2B All-State first unit: Senior hitter Sarah Cook, junior middle blocker Makayla Herrera, senior setter Emma Keller and senior libero Rachel Cram.
Five of the nine first team 2B All-State selections – and their head coach – are from La Conner.
The team swept their four matches at the state tourney in November, not losing a single set in the process. During the regular season, La Conner posted non-conference triumphs over teams from the 1A-4A ranks.
“This is a special group of young women,” coach Marble told the Weekly News, “and I am very proud.”
