La Conner High School had all bases covered early in its game Friday at Darrington.
The Braves just couldn’t bring those baserunners home.
La Conner opened the contest by loading the bases with none out.
“Unfortunately,” head coach Jeremiah LeSourd said after his club’s 7-0 conference setback, “that was as close as we got to scoring.”
Braves starting pitcher Haydin Dinuis yielded just one run through four frames, at which point the hosts held a slim 3-0 lead.
Darrington blew the game open, however, with four unearned runs in the home fourth.
“Haydin competed well on the mound,” LeSourd said afterward of Dinuis, who was also one of four La Conner batters to deliver base hits.
Cameron Burks, Logan Burks, and Brogan Masonholder joined Dinuis on the Braves’ hit parade.
Despite the zero on the scoreboard, all wasn’t lost for the Braves, according to LeSourd.
“Our team,” he noted, “has shown improvement from last year and in the first three weeks this year. Experience is everything and this game will help us grow.”
La Conner (0-1) was scheduled to resume NW2B/1B action yesterday at Coupeville.
The Lady Braves’ softball team (0-1), which fell 12-2 at Darrington, was likewise scheduled at Coupeville on Tuesday.
La Conner baseball and softball teams are slated at league foe Orcas Island March 29. Softball starts at 3:30 p.m. next Tuesday, with baseball getting under way a half-hour later.
